CKDu CURE Consortium

The Chronic Kidney Disease of UnceRtain Etiology (CKDu) in Agricultural Communities (CURE) Research Consortium, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is a collaborative research consortium that brings together a broad range of expertise and enables discovery science to understand the causes of CKDu and risk factors for disease progression of CKDu.

Consortium Goal

The goal of the CURE Consortium (CKDu CURE) is to identify the causes of CKDu to facilitate the identification of potential therapeutic targets and public health interventions:

  •   Enable discovery science to understand the causes and disease progression of CKDu.
  •   Work to finalize ethical epidemiology research designs, execute common strategies for biological sampling and environmental assessment, and apply optimal standardized analytic strategies for samples and data collected from seven field sites in Central America and India.
  •   Use findings about CKDu etiology to identify potential therapeutic targets and public health interventions for CKDu.
  •   Disseminate the results to global research and public health communities.
